I bought a Hasselblad 500C/M as a student, with the last of my overdraft, from a camera shop on the day it closed. For a few years I made portraits with it, of friends held at an angle to the towns and cities they lived in by sexuality, by race, by class, by ill health; those who ‘serpentined among the shadows’ of those places as a result.¹ Then the work moved to still life, and to landscape, and then it stopped.

Caring for someone put the cameras away for several years. What I have started again with is the film that I didn't give away, rolls left at the back of my wardrobes, expired, and never used. They sat dormant with my artistic practice. Re-learning to expose and develop for it is most of the work now.

At the moment I am walking Cannock Chase, with the intention of photographing it on infrared film.
